Risk Management Services at UBC provides a number of courses that are required for incoming lab personnel, required for the use of particular materials in the lab, or that can be taken to advance or update knowledge on a topic relating to environmental safety.

Chemical Safety Training (valid for 5 years)
WHMIS Safety Training (valid for 5 years) not needed if you have taken the Chemical Safety Training course
Hazardous Waste Management Training (valid for 3 years)
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Ground transport certificate valid for 3 years, Air transport certificate valid for 2 years)
Biosafety Training (valid for 5 years)
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) 6.2 (Ground transport certificate valid for 3 years, Air transport certificate valid for 2 years)
Occupational and Preventative Health Consultation (initial in person consultation, followed by an annual digital survey)
Introduction to Laser Safety. (valid for 5 years)
Radiation Training (valid for 5 years)
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) 7 (Ground transport certificate valid for 3 years, Air transport certificate valid for 2 years)
Autoclaving
In addition to completing the “Autoclave Training” course offered through https://wpl.ubc.ca/, the Department of Botany requires members that are planning on using autoclaves for their work, or research, to undergo in-department autoclave safety training.
