Title: NextGen Hops: A BC based Hop (Humulus lupulus) variety development platform

Mathias Schuetz is a plant cell biologist with expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry and plant genetics. He has over 15 years of research experience working on plant molecular biology and regularly publishes his research in the highest-ranking scientific journals in the plant sciences research field. For the past 7 years, he has focused his research on questions relating to how plant metabolite biosynthesis is correlated with metabolite export and sequestration mechanisms. These research lines have spanned several different plant systems including model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana (thale cress) and Populus trichocarpa (poplar trees), and medically/agricultural important plants such as Cannabis sativa (Cannabis) and Humulus lupulus (Hops).  Mathias is also an adjunct professor in the Botany department at the University of British Columbia where he supervises and mentors graduate students.
