The purpose of this course is to introduce graduate students to professional scientific communication skills. Students will give and receive feedback on presentations, while learning how to build sound scientific argument, preparing visual aids, and conveying scientific information to diverse audiences. The course is designed to improve verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate broadly and effectively.
In addition to scientific communication skills, we will also discuss other general skills and tools graduate students in Botany need to succeed. These include time and data management, mentorship, conflict management, fostering diversity (strategies for increasing equity and overcoming implicit bias), scientific integrity and misconduct, collaboration and authorship.
